Class Descriptions:

Introduction to Flameworking:
Flameworking survey class: This class is intended to introduce the student to the ancient art of Flameworking. Lampworking is the manipulation of molten glass using a localized heat source, such as a torch. In this 2 hour class we will explore its modern incarnation using gas/oxy torches and graphite and steel tools to produce beads, marbles, and figurines. Students will each have their own workstation, torch , tools, and all the supplies and glass provided for them. Topics covered include: Basic safety and equipment operation, fundamentals of hot glass manipulation, glass color usage and surface decoration, and more.

Introduction to bead making:
In this class we will explore the over 5000 year old art form of glass beadmaking using the best of modern equipment and supplies. Over the course of the 2 hour class you will learn all the fundemental skills and information needed to produce your own glass beads in nearly any shape or color you can imagine. Students will each have their own workstation, torch , tools, and all the supplies and glass provided for them. Topics covered include: Basic safety and equipment operation, fudementals of hot glass manipulation, “wound” glass or mandrel bead making, glass color usage, surface decoration, and much more.

Flameworking II:
This 3 hour long beginner intensive is for anyone who has taken at least one other class from us or equivalent experience. In this class we will further explore color application as well as continue to expand on forming and shaping abilities with borosilicate glass. Projects will include marbles and pendants, a sculpted flower and much more. Each student will leave this class with a solid foundation of techniques with which to begin to develop their own creative glass work.

Introduction to bead making II:
This class is intended for those who have taken a beginning flameworking class and would like to progress further with bead and jewelry fabrication. More surface coloring techniques, advanced shaping and forming, and a wide range of colors and materials will be covered. Students will also have a higher degree of control over thier in-class projects and they will leave having taken steps towards designing and producing an original line of their own jewelry. Students will each have their own workstation, torch , tools, and all the supplies and glass provided for them.

Introduction to hollow forms:
An introduction to blowing hollow forms at the torch using borosilicate glass. While no previous experience is required, it will provide more challenging projects like ornaments and small vases and bottles, for the more serious student. Students will each have their own workstation, torch , tools, and all the supplies and glass provided for them. Topics covered include: Basic safety and equipment operation, fundamentals of hot glass manipulation, glass color usage and surface decoration and more.

Rental policies:
We offer bench rental to those who are able to safely operate the equipment based solely on our judgement, and on a case by case basis.  Typically most students will be able to rent time after having attended 2-3 classes, but this may vary based on individual students progress.  
$15 per hour includes torch, tools, glasses and gas

Guided Rentals:  
Our guided rental time is intended to give those who are new to flameworking a time and place to hone their skills while having constant supervision from one of our instructors.  This time can also be useful for those who are looking for specific help on projects or with particular techniques.
$25 per hour includes torch, tools, glasses and gas
